CIVIC PLATFORM: Mayoral candidate Robert-Falcon Ouellette

Winnipeg Municipal Election 2022

WINNIPEG – On October 26th, Winnipeg heads to the polls to elect its next mayor. Eleven candidates will be on the ballot with a vision of how they will lead Winnipeg for the next five years. Eight candidates have accepted our invitation to convey their plans and promises.

Today, Civic Platform host Zuher Almusre sits down with mayoral candidate Robert-Falcon Ouellette to learn more about him and his platform.

Robert-Falcon Ouellette is running for mayor to help lift people up and ensure families can create lives here in Winnipeg long term. He also addresses crime rates by looking at the root causes of poverty and addiction.

Ouellette has pledged to tax downtown parking lots as if they had buildings on them, which he hopes would encourage owners to redevelop them — a change that would require the province to amend the City of Winnipeg charter.

Ouellette says he would freeze the Winnipeg Police Service's budget during his first term and use the money saved to give grants to community safety groups.

Ouellette also says he would raise property taxes but has not said by how much.

The 10 other mayoral candidates are: Idris Adelakun, Rana Bokhari, Chris Clacio, Scott Gillingham, Kevin Klein, Shaun Loney, Jenny Motkaluk, Glen Murray, Rick Shone, and Don Woodstock.
