Every February, people across Canada participate in Black History Month events and festivities that honour the legacy of Black Canadians and their communities. 

The 2023 theme for Black History Month is "Ours to tell." representing both an opportunity to engage in open dialogue and a commitment to learning more about the stories Black communities in Canada have to tell about their histories, successes, sacrifices and triumphs. No matter where you live, all Canadians must learn more about these communities and how they continue to help shape Canadian history. - (Government of Canada) 

This "Civic Platform" episode features Jamie Moses, MLA, ST. Vital, Winnipeg. Moses talked about the most critical challenges facing the Black community in Winnipeg and how we can improve their lives.  

Moses said that we did not choose the colour of our skin before we were born, this is how we were, and the world should respect that Black people have the same rights as any person. Moses added that Winnipeg appreciates its cultural diversity, as it is a diverse city that accepts and is friendly to people of all backgrounds and cultures.  

Moses works through his position to promote these concepts and spread the culture of acceptance of others, and he is an excellent example of a Winnipeg success story. He hopes to inspire youth with what he has learned from life and encourages them to focus on and build their futures.
