Youth Voices, Civic Impact: Cultivating Change in British Columbia
In our rapidly evolving world, where technology often commands our attention, young people, especially within the Persian Community in BC, can sometimes feel disconnected from their communities. Yet, there is a potent remedy to this disconnection: engagement through volunteerism. Through volunteering, young individuals not only enrich their own lives but also contribute positively to society in a multitude of ways.
In British Columbia, our youth are not just the leaders of tomorrow; they are the architects of our future and the stewards of our civic society. We must provide them with the guidance, support, and inspiration they need to play an active role in shaping the destiny of our province. However, there are instances where our younger generations may not fully grasp their importance in driving positive change, creating sustainable solutions, and fostering unity within our communities. Therefore, it is incumbent upon us to ensure that they are equipped with the knowledge, resources, and opportunities to understand their important role in building a vibrant and inclusive society in British Columbia.
In an enlightening discussion, Poran Poregbal and Samira Gholami engage in a conversation with two remarkable young adults who are newcomers to Canada. Isabel and Mina graciously share their unique experiences as newcomers and as young people striving to discern their visions for a brighter future.
Mina's relocation to British Columbia, Canada, five years ago brought significant challenges as she struggled to adapt to her new life. However, she discovered that connecting with people and resources in the community was invaluable. Seeking support from local organizations and individuals provided her with guidance, strength, and a sense of belonging. Mina's experience highlights the importance of community support in navigating life's transitions and finding one's place in a new environment.
Isabel stressed the importance of volunteer work and accessing government resources for success. She encouraged involvement in the community to improve her English skills and overcome shyness. Isabel highlighted the value of taking the first step and getting involved in volunteer activities to gain experience and contribute to society.
Poran and Samira, like Isabel and Mina, also have their own stories of moving to Canada. They faced challenges in adapting to a new culture and establishing themselves professionally. However, through resilience and determination, they found support within the community and utilized available resources to build fulfilling lives in their new home. Their experiences highlight the importance of community engagement and perseverance in overcoming the obstacles of starting anew in a foreign country.
In conclusion, nurturing youth engagement in civic society is essential for a vibrant future in British Columbia. Empowering our young leaders to actively shape our communities ensures a stronger, more inclusive society for generations to come.
